My Crazy Greyhound, no tripod!

TV 1/160 ISO 100 FS 100

He will not stop to let me get the tripod set up!

Glenn Ball -- Grand Coulee Laser Show

Pic taken at 10:30 pm @ Grand coulee Dam's laser light show
F5.6; Exposure 4 seconds
This is a laser image projected on the concrete face of the dam.

Pam Kirkwood "Thirsty"

This picture was taken in my parents backyard.  It was shot with 1/250 shutter speed, F5.3, ISO 400 with a 105 mm focal length.  This was the best shot, done on a tripod, but I didn't have much time to play around trying to take a picture.  It started to rain and the birds went away.  Still didn't get it "crisp".  Will be practicing for that.

Diane Waiste “A Bit of Reflection!”

This photograph was taken in the early evening using the following: P = 1/200, F=7.1, 26 mm, exposure compensation = -1.7. I took a number of shots trying to get the background to be darker with an emphasis on the green of the leaves with a highlight being the reflection in the water drop.

Skiing the Clouds

This was taken with a point-and-shoot camera at about 9,000 ft, just below Camp Muir on Mt. Rainier last weekend. This was a tough shot because it is so hard to compose a shot with the LCD screen in bright light.

I got lucky on this one. I selected a semi-auto setting for "snow and beach" which adjusts the exposure for more light. I shot this at a focal length 0f 63 mm, ISO 50, 1/500 of a second, f 7.4 which gave me plenty of speed and depth of field. However, there was a LOT of light to work with from the blue skies and white snow, enough to sunburn my tongue!

Pam Kirkwood "Too Close for Comfort"

f/8,  1/200 sec, ISO 400, 200mm Focal length
I was having fun in the dark of my bathroom with flames and bubbles.  This was my best shot.  I wish it was more in focus and a little less grainy.  I played around with the ISO, aperature and shutter speed to try to get the shot more clear, but this was as good as I got.

Daniela Romeo - Fun

Shutter speed 1/640, aperture f. 6.3, ISO 400, focal length 41 mm. My son and two of his friends. I like the freezed movement and the sharp primary colors, I wish I had not cut the feet of the first boy.

Arlyn Palomo- Bike Ride

Photo was taken at
Shutter Speed 1/8
Aperture f/20
ISO 100
I wish I could have made the subject more in focus and closer in view (but he got tired after ciricling around me several times and if I wanted a ride back home, I couldn't make him mad).

Aleece Foster - Big Dog In Motion

Nancy Mooney "Flying Princess"

This was taken @ f/5 with shutter speed of 1/1000 ISO 100 with a focal length of 54mm. Wanted to get a frozen image of the princess (my grandaughter) jumping..which, I think, was successful. One improvement might have been some blurring of the background (which I don't know how to do) I did crop some of the background to increase focus on the subject.

Ghost Cat

Handheld shot: 1/5 second, f 4.8, focal length 55 mm, ISO 400. A tripod would have helped here by adding some in-focus landmarks, but I doubt my subject would have stayed long enough for me to fetch it.

Chuck DeHart "Foggy Creek"

I put my camera on a tripod and slowed this one down to 4sec on the shutter with the aperture set at f/20 and an ISO of 100. I wanted to blur the water as much as I could. I would like more boulders in the shot because of the fog effect around the rock.

Allie Carr - "Stillness"

This particular shot was done at ISO 200, shutter 1/160, F5.6, and 200 mm. I was hoping to get more movement in the shot as I know Ms. Kates likes movement but opted for this one because I liked the little bit of reflection I got in this one.

Diane Waiste - Tumwater Falls

I took the photograph using the following: s = 1/1000, F= 4.8 and ISO = 720. I wanted to capture the spray of the water and had to try several shots. I felt this one did the best of all that I took. I also wanted to frame the photo with the logs around the falls.

Arlyn Palomo- "Deep in the Flowers"

Aperture is set to f/1.8 because I wanted very shallow depth of field and wanted to blur the foreground and background, with the middle ground in focus. The ISO is set to 100 since it was a clear, sunny day outside. This setting put the histogram barely to the left, but seems pretty center in regards to the rest of the histogram.

Chuck DeHart - Shroom to Roam

These mushrooms were in my back yard. Usually see them from above so I thought I would try their perspective. The aperture was set at f/2.8 to give me a shallow depth of field. It was overcast so I stepped up the ISO a little to 200. The 55mm focal length got me up close to the mushrooms. The histogram put this shot about middle with very little brightest or darker tones. I probably should have upped the aperture a bit for a little more depth to get the larger mushroom entirely in focus.

Pam Kirkwood "Sunny Day"

1/320 s  F29  ISO 900
This is  a picture of the sun that my son drew on our window.  I took the photo looking out through the window towards the sky. I used a large aperature to try to get the clouds to be in focus a bit.  I wish the the "sun" was a little brighter.  The histogram is off balance to the right.  Too bright, but the sun becomes too dark when I changed the settings.

Perspective

I wanted to blur out the background, and add some separation from the other glass pieces by opening the aperture to f/5.6 (max at the focal length of 130 mm). That dictated an exposure of 1/125 sec (ISO 250). I shot this because I thought this was a unique piece. Next time I will place the in-focus piece out of the center (D'-oh!). The histogram was a little weak on the highlights (right end) but I forgot how to compensate the exposure. However, if the image was brighter, it may be too bright. This installation is at an old high school on Eastside Street, Olympia.

Diane Waiste - Ready for some fun?

Photo taken at 1/2500, F 4.5, ISO 400. I wanted the signs to be the focal point with the boats visible but blurred.

I thought these were interesting flowers and would make a good picture.

The ISO setting is 200 and the apeture setting is 7.1.

These flowers are in my front flower bed.

Photo was taken @ f/8, ISO 100, focal length 39mm. I took the photo at several different apertures but didn't see too much difference.

Glenn Ball - "Boats at the Dock"

Photo taken 6/4/11. Shot at 1/200; F4; ISO 100. Shot same pic 4 times, adjusting aperture for each pic. I chose this photo because it had the best lighting and depth of field. It also had the best spread on the histogram. I liked the reflections in the water, and the background of trees and other boats.
